Visit our village

As most of you know, we moved last summer. We spent the first two years of our married life in government housing in St Denis, a close suburb of Paris (at the end of a metro line) where Frederic grew up. That was practical from a "close-to-work" standpoint for both of us at the time, but we were tired of throwing away money in rent.

So in 2002, we bought a condo in Villiers le Bel, a suburb a little bit further from Paris. We really enjoyed the condo itself, but after 4 years we couldn't take much more of the neighbors, and decided it was time to go.

After much preliminary searching on the internet, we only had to visit two houses to find the one we wanted. We now live about an hour away from Paris (we don't go to Paris very often anyway) and it takes Frederic about 45 minutes to get to work; the same amount of time as from Villiers le Bel, but on a highway instead of city streets with stoplights. We ended up in a village with about 230 inhabitants. There is a larger town about 4 miles away where we have a grocery store, bank, etc. Our village has a school only a 10 minute walk from our house.

These are some pictures of our village I took on a walk with Benjamin.

City hall and school

The village church; there is a Catholic mass there only every 3 months or so due to the serious shortage of priests.

Our village is in the middle of a national forest.

We hope that someday you will come and visit us here!

Alisa,

It is so fun to see that you now have a blog. I love getting to see the pictures of Benjamin. Your village looks so quaint and beautiful. Maybe someday I will get to come and visit you. Looking forward to keeping up with your family.

Love ya, Debbie Davis

Have you met other people in your village? Do they have village parties? Are there parks there with swing sets and such?

I met one lady a few months back when I was out taking a walk with Benjamin. I think Frederic has met a couple neighbors. And we met the mayor when we registered to vote.

There are a lot of village activites, like a party when the new Beaujolais comes out in the fall. We haven't attended any yet, though.

No swingsets or parks, but lots of nice places to walk. We haven't ventured into the forest much yet since it's hunting season (!) but maybe we will in the summer.
