Field Trip!

I got to go with Benjamin's class on a field trip sponsored by the local tourism office this week. It was a WWI-themed trip, so we started with the war monument in Villers-CotterĂȘts.

Then we visited the military cemetery in Villers-CotterĂȘts, where the kids had to find answers to various questions about the cemetery and the soldiers buried there.

Then we went to the Montgobert castle, which was a local headquarters during the war, and we saw some postcards soldiers at that time sent to their families, and heard about what their lives were like when they weren't fighting on the front lines.

The visit ended with a short hike into the woods to see the site of General Mangin's observation tower, and a cavalry lieutenant's grave.
